Windsor Ruins
The grandest mansion in the region, lost to fire 1890

Rosswood is located midway between Natchez and Vicksburg, two miles east of US 61 on State Route 552. It is 1 hours from Jackson, 3 hours from New Orleans, and 5 hours from Memphis. If you need specific directions, call ahead to us at 1-800-533-5889 (WARNING: some MapQuest maps show Rosswood in the wrong place).

Port Gibson (10 miles north), Natchez and Vicksburg have antebellum homes, Civil War battlefields and other attractions for visitors to enjoy, plus fine restaurants. At Lorman is the unexplored site of "The Battle of the Cotton Bales," when Rosswood was used as a hospital for wounded on both sides. The South won that one, and chased the Union forces back to the Mississippi River, 15 miles to the west. Also nearby are the awesome ruins of Windsor, the grandest mansion in the whole region. Built in 1859 by David Shroder two years after he finished Rosswood, Windsor survived the war but was lost to fire in 1890.
